Safeguarding Peace in Vanimo: Urgent Call to Address Rising Petty Crimes

Vanimo Town, once celebrated for its peaceful atmosphere and vibrant community spirit, is now facing a gradual rise in petty crimes that threaten the safety and harmony of its residents. From the familiar walkways of Vanimo Secondary through the sawmill back road, to the transmitter and Wara Kongkong settlement, the sense of security that once defined our town is fading.

As one of Papua New Guinea’s designated Special Economic Zone (SEZ) hotspots, Vanimo holds immense potential for growth and prosperity. Yet, without decisive action, the normalization of petty crimes risks undermining this vision and eroding community trust. The government’s broader agenda emphasizes reducing crime and fostering safe, inclusive environments—values that must be urgently upheld here in Vanimo.

Town authorities are therefore called upon to act swiftly and strategically. Immediate measures to strengthen community policing, improve public awareness, and enhance collaboration between local leaders and law enforcement are essential. By restoring order and reinforcing accountability, Vanimo can reclaim its reputation as a peaceful town and ensure that economic opportunities are not overshadowed by insecurity.

The people of Vanimo deserve to walk freely, live confidently, and thrive in a safe environment. Let us work together to reduce petty crimes and safeguard the future of our town in line with the government’s vision for peace and prosperity.
